I truly enjoy my job here at The Legacy Foundation. One of the reasons our work is so satisfying is because we help residents to realize their goals of leaving a legacy and putting their hard-earned money toward worthy causes.

Joe Perry

Joe Perry

I'm reminded of Joe Perry, a Shell Point resident who lived here during the 1990s. Joe, who worked in the CIA, traveled the world with his wife, Ruby. In 1988, they moved to Shell Point, living in Cellana. They loved to eat out and were friends with many in the community, residents and employees alike. After Ruby died in 1993, Joe continued to stay involved.

Joe was very friendly and loved by many. When he passed away in December of 1995, Joe left a gift for all of his friends at Shell Point. In his estate he left a total donation of nearly $270,000 with $50,000 designated to purchase a new bus. The rest was used for a variety of other purposes throughout the community.

This $50,000 contribution was put in a "restricted fund" and was used for purchasing Shell Point's newest bus in 2000.

Those who knew Joe will remember his friendship, his laughter, and his graciousness. In addition to his personal legacy, he was able to leave a tangible legacy to the community.

I'm guessing that most Shell Point residents have had the opportunity to travel in the bus, whether to a concert, activity, or other trip. Every minute of comfort spent in that vehicle is a gift from Joe, who wanted to share what he had so that all his friends and neighbors at Shell Point could benefit.

The Legacy Foundation wants to assist you in making your philanthropy as meaningful to you as Joe's was to him. We can help to guide your gift giving with your personal goals in mind.
