SHARING THE REWARDS OF LIFE
Remembering Shell Point in Your Will

by Jeff Cory, CFP, ChFC,
Executive Director

Many people have good intentions about providing for Shell Point, but often they never quite get around to doing it. Perhaps you’ve been considering a gift to us, but your cash flow prevents an outright gift.

Keep in mind that one of the simplest ways for you to make a future contribution to Shell Point is through your will.

Numerous Options

In your will, you can name Shell Point as a beneficiary, giving you many choices.

  • One possibility is a bequest of a fixed dollar amount. Another is to give us a percentage of the estate, which allows you to keep the division of the estate residue in desired proportions, regardless of its size.
  • Your gift can be contingent-that is, the funds would go to a certain individual if that person survives you. If not, they would be paid to Shell Point. Often a better alternative is to create a trust through your will, which would pay an income to the individual for life, with the remaining principal to be given to Shell Point thereafter.
  • Usually, a gift without restrictions is most useful, because it allows us to apply the funds to our most pressing needs. But you also have the right to specify in your will how the funds are to be used. If you wish to do this, we urge you to consult us before you execute you will to make certain the conditions are ones we are able to meet.
  • One of the nicest things you can do it make your gift in memory of someone-either yourself or a person you’ve loved or admired.

Let Us Know

If you are planning to make Shell Point one of your beneficiaries, we encourage you to tell us now. That way, we can help you get the greatest possible satisfaction from your gift.
